Bundang is the southernmost district of Seongnam city. It is also known to being one of the wealthiest regions in Gyeonggi Province. Since it has been recently developed, it is a well organized city with well laid-out streets, new apartment buildings, numerous parks and a good local infrastructure. Unlike many of the older cities, which have yet to be developed. One of the most famous parks in Bundang is Bundang Central Park. Since it's development fifteen years ago, Bundang has become a thriving a robust city. In addition to having it's own subway line. Bundang also has the Seongnam Arts Center. The Seongnam Arts Center first opened it's doors on October 14, 2005. Since then, numerous performing venues have been preformed there. Ranging from ballet, opera, classical music performances and jazz concerts.
The name Bundang was first created while Korea was under Japanese rule. The villages of Bunjeom-ri (분점리, 盆店里) and Dangwu-ri (당우리, 唐隅里) amalgamated to form the village we know today as Bundang.
